Kathryn

Kathryn is a welder and journeyman millwright and has been in the industry for almost 4 years! The company she works for builds and maintains the anti-pollution units in paper mills and power plants, so she mainly works shutdowns. Before millwrighting, she was doing residential remodels.

She works on everything from chain drives and motors to precipitators. She's another super active member in our community - she's always replying to people in the rant session chatroom and offering comfort and advice, or she's in "work related" talking about the best insoles for a 14 hour shift. We are so grateful to have you in our Sisterhood Kathryn!

Sarah

Welcome Sarah!! Sarah is an apprentice autobody technician and painter based in Canada. She's always had a passion for cars, and couldn't see herself sitting in an office. She decided to pursue automotive, and she went to school for autobody. Sarah eventually wants to get into custom paint jobs! I know who I'll be reaching out to for a custom project 👀

Another part of my (Nush's) mission with both Sisterhood of Trades and NextGenMFG Podcast is to get young women (and men) onto platforms like LinkedIn so they can start marketing themselves. Networks are a powerful tool, and who knows? Maybe in the future you'll be reaching out to Sarah for a custom paint job too!

Reilly

I'm so excited to shout out Reilly! She's a crane operator and she's one of the most active members of our chat. You may remember seeing a few answers from Reilly on my previous posts!

Reilly is 26 years old from Utah, and she's been running cranes for 2 years now. Prior to that she was in excavation for 3 years. A lot of her messages in chat are advice to other women about being on the road or operating heavy machinery. She also just recently joined her local union, and we got to witness a part of that - I don't think I can put into words how cool it was to be somewhat involved in the process.

Hey Reilly, thank you for being a part of the Sisterhood of Trades, thank you for giving the best advice and always responding to the questions that the moderators post!

Brooke

Brooke’s journey into the trades didn’t start on the shop floor. She initially pursued college to play volleyball and explore a career in health but quickly realized it wasn’t her path. After taking a semester off, she followed the advice of her union hall and enrolled in a private welding school — fueled partly by those who doubted she’d succeed in a trade.

Growing up as an only child to a handy father, Brooke developed a passion for hands-on work. “I was always a visual learner,” she says. “Being Type 1 Diabetic, I needed good benefits, and seeing my dad work with his hands made me know this was the right path for me.”

Jade

Jade is one of our welder-fabricators in our chat, and she's been at it for 7 years! She loved everything about art and all kinds of different mediums, and when talking with a neighbor she discovered welding. She knew she didn't want to go through a four-year college and end up working in a field she didn't like - so she started researching.

She watched YouTube videos of metal artists like Barbie Parsons and Rae Ripple, who inspired her to enroll in the Daytona State College welding program. She fell in love on her first day of class welding with 6010, and the rest is history.
Jade is a traveling welder and heavy machine operator, and she became a welder just based on her pure love for working with her hands and creating something. Jade it's so awesome to have you in our group! Your mission to inspire other women is so powerful and we are so lucky to have you in the Sisterhood of Trades! If you want to support Jade you should check out her Instagram @/rusticwelder to see her custom work too! Let her know that a Sister sent you :)
